Statement issued by the President of the French breed club (Club Français des Amateurs de Bull terrier, d'American Staffordshire Terrier et de Staffordshire Bull Terrier - CFABAS): In this pre-election period, the recent tragic incidents involving dog bites are causing great concern for our breeds.
The latest statements made by M Nicolas Sarkozy, the french minister of the interior, are proof that there is indeed cause for alarm. At the beginning of 2005, when the various ministries decided to work on updating the "dangerous dogs" law of january 1999, the breed club compiled a file to defend Staffordshire Bull Terriers, as the breed was especially at risk at that time.
The 200 page file, including dozens of witness accounts and hundreds of photos was passed on to the authorities but has, to this day, been left unanswered. In spite of this, the mass mobilisation was a great success.
I feel it is urgent to start a similar action in favour of the American Staffordshire Terrier, extremely vulnerable at the moment and already included in the "B list" of the french BSL. Bull Terriers seem less at risk for the time being but we need to remain vigilent and ready to act in favour of the breed when it becomes necessary.
It is time for friends of the American Staff to forget personal issues and get together as one to work on compiling a file that the CFABAS will pass onto the ministers involved. However, to be efficient, this action needs to be methodical and rigorous. I am therefore asking all AmStaff friends, regardless of origin (breeders, professionals, friends, neighbours, owners of other breeds etc...) and regardless of social status, to send us all information (letters, e-mails, digital photos or prints, copies of studies etc...) to show how stable and sociable AmStaffs can be. We can all make a difference: a few lines by a pet dog owner are as important as the statement of a dog behaviourist or a vet.
I am therefore asking everyone to relay this message in any way they can and to transfer all the elements they receive to one of the following addresses:
- Mr Emmanuel TASSE – 6 quater rue du 18 juin 1940 – Appt 162 – 94700
MAISONS ALFORT – president@cfabas.fr
- Mr Franck FIQUET – 173 rue de Lattre de Tassigny – 59128 FLERS EN
ESCREBIEUX – franck.fiquet@cfabas.fr
Thank you very much in advance on behalf of the American Staffordshire
Terrier in France.
I thank you in advance.Kindest regards.

Update:- France
Wolf has e-mailed and phoned me to say that Madame Balland has asked us to stop sending e-mails from England. She has apparently been absolutely inundated.
As always, it is important that we respect the wishes of those in the affected country so I’d be grateful if you could update any websites and/or news groups, etc. and ask people to ONLY write to the SBT club with support at 'lesitedustaffi@yahoo.fr'
Many thanks
