The first article is without text, but above is the website link to the incident, complete with gory photo of the poor Am. Staffordshire Terrier. The dog attacked and badly injured a cat. Three men passing by witnessed it and they strung the dog with rope around a tree trunk (said they feared the dog would come after them) called the police, who said the ropes holding the dog started to loosen (as easily seen in the photo (NOT!)...they shot the dog with special ammunition now issued to policemen, that explodes inside the object shot...this is referred in Germany as the new 'Fighting Dog' bullets, guaranteed to stop these 'killer dogs'.

Article 2: It says Staffordshire Terrier and later Bullterrier...so who knows what the breed of dog really was...
The day did not start well for the man with the dog. It was raining and he was hungry as well. So, Jan U., 27, went into the Cafe Linie 1 on Manteuffelstrasse. It had a nice atmosphere and the food was fresh. The man with the dog served himself a roll bread ladened with Emmenthaler Cheese.
His dog, a Staffordshire Bullterrier without leash or muzzle, crawled behind the counter and made himself comfortable.
Not happy was the 39 year old Cashier: 'Jan U. from the Thuringen town of Rudolstadt, did not have the 3.50 DM for the bread roll and his dog gave her fear.
As the man was told to leave, he became angry and said a lot of curse words towards the cashier and began kicking the counter. The cashier quickly called the police.
The man with the dog started to leave. The police found the two on the corner of Lausitzer Place. Jan U. is still very angry. It would not get better, as the police told him to put his dog on a leash and show them some identification.
The Thuringerer did not have a leash on him, so they restrained the dog with a strap they wear to hold their police radios. The man became aggressive and from this, the dog started to react to his owners anger. He broke loose from the restraint and jumped behind a policewoman and bit her in the leg. Three policeman drew their weapons and fired at the dog, killing him instantly. All of this happened, because the man lost his temper.

The story about the German Shepherd:
This made huge headlines (in the dog community) but of the entire German press, it was in one or two newspapers, only as a 1' column. Nothing on television. Zip. Nada.

When her father found her, 11 year old Kristina was dead. She had deep bites in the head, neck, shoulder and arms and was found floating face down in the garden pond. Standing over her was one of the family's 3 year old GSD's looking at her like she was his prey.
Since her parents separated, Kristinas father and his girlfriend have been living in Schleswig-Holstein, in Lutzhorn near Hamburg. The couple have two GSD who Kristina and her 15 year old sister Johanna knew well. On Monday, though, Kristina was visiting her father alone and was playing in the garden 10 minutes unsupervised with the two dogs. When her father came back outside to be with her, it was too late. She was floating in the pond face-down and one of the GSD had blood all over his head. An emergency doctor was called but all he could do was pronounce her dead. Kristina's parents think perhaps the child fell in and was drowning, splashing her arms and head in the air and the dog was trying to save her. But the police and the veterinarian called said with the deepness of the wounds, that was probably unlikely. A dog expert (whose name Rudi and I have never heard of) said perhaps the child fell in and was trying frantically to get out and this made the dog wild, treating her like prey. The dog covered in blood was euthanized the same day and the other GSD was brought to an animal shelter.
.........................................................................................................
Not another word was ever spoken of this in the media.
This was so quickly and swiftly swept under the rug, it made all of us ill.
It will be one thing we plan to bring up in court (along with the list of every dog attack that resulted in death, the majority are GSD's.
