Norway
A new dog law has been proposed in the Norwegian parliament. The proposition was put forward by the ministry of Justice. This proposition has come about because of public pressure following a number of attacks on humans by a variety of breeds of dogs during the last few years. If accepted, the law would gives Norwegian police the right to shoot any dog that attacks a child under twelve years of age. Also, all breeds would have to be kept on a lead at all times. The government have also suggested that both the Staffordshire bull terrier and American Staffordshire terrier be banned. They also considered adding the Bull terrier to their list of banned breeds but decided against this.
The Norwegian Kennel Club is demanding a more detailed investigation into the effects of this law. They believe that this law has not been properly thought out. They have started a petition which you can see on their website www.nkk.no
