SBT BREED COUNCIL POLICY

For over 10 years the SBT Breed Council has embraced a two pronged approach to the question of Dangerous Dog Legislation.

1 - We oppose the entire principle of breed specific legislation believing that this deflects the debate about public safety away from human and dog behavior, focusing instead merely on appearance.
2 - Where breed specific legislation is imposed by government we reserve the right to explain why Staffordshire Bull Terriers should not be proscribed

This policy was re-affirmed at the Breed Council meeting in August 2000

The SBT Breed Council has a history of opposing breed specific laws including
- Attending the Home Office briefings in 1991 to oppose the proposals
- Organising the "Wood Green" seminar where Lord Houghton first announced the formation of the DDA Reform Group
- Organising a Reception at The House of Commons for MPs and Lords
- On behalf of the DDA Reform Group, attending meetings with the Home Office presenting written and verbal evidence to The House of Lords Select Committee
- Presenting written and verbal evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee
