BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION

BSL stands for Breed Specific Legislation which in simple terms means the possibility of laws being passed to ban a particular breed based on the assumption that if a dog of that breed shows unacceptable behaviour, for example biting, ALL dogs of that breed will behave like that and should be banned.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are here to help. If your country is under the threat from BSL, please feel free to get in touch with the Public Relations Officer of the Breed Council, Veronica Brown, who can be e. mailed at wildlilybrown@aol.com Veronica Brown has access to and the support of many individuals who are experienced in dealing with BSL, and would be very pleased to offer advice.

Please remember that you are not alone and we are here to help you and your Staffords.

THINKING OF TAKING YOUR STAFFORD TO EUROPE, PLEASE READ

With the advent of the pet passport scheme, taking a dog on holiday to Europe has never been easier. However please be aware of the following facts. Most countries in Europe are Stafford friendly, with the obvious exception of Germany, where although the situation varies from State to State, the Breed Council would advise not to take any chances.

There appears to be a grey area with regards to France, whilst in theory they are allowed, instances of Staffords being banned by camp site owners have arisen. If you are planning to take your dog to France please check where you are staying before you go.

If you need any further advice please do get in touch with the Breed Council Public Relations Officer, Veronica Brown, email wildlilybrown@aol.com
