PRO REPORT SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 2007

THE STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER BREED COUNCIL OF
GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND

PRO’S REPORT ON THE MEETING HELD AT THE COACH
AND HORSES, MARKFIELD, LEICESTERSHIRE ON SATURDAY 22nd September 2007

The Chairman opened the meeting at 11.05 after a slight delay in preparing the room.
There were nine clubs present, East Anglia, East Midlands, Morecambe Bay and Cumbria, Northern Counties, North East, Notts and Derby, Potteries, Southern Counties and The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club. Apologies were received from North of Scotland, the Scottish Club, Downlands and South Wales.

During the free discussion period concern was expressed over a letter sent from Jeff Sampson to all the clubs regarding a canine disease nobody has ever heard off which allegedly affected Staffords and some mainly toy breeds – Syringomyelia. The Health Co-ordinator from Northern Counties had contacted the Kennel Club but it wasn’t clear if there were any concerns for the owners of Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Once again several clubs stressed the importance of showing our breed in a positive light and clubs were encouraged to do everything possible in this direction. The North East described how an invitation to their local television company to attend a North East show had resulted in a very positive feature on the local news programme. Mention was also made of the recent Panorama programme which delegates felt had been good for the image of Staffords because it had concentrated on the pitbull.

It was unanimously agreed that Mary Pringle should be recognised for her unstinting support of the Breed Council over many years in her role as breed correspondent for Dog World. A floral tribute was to be sent to her from the Breed Council.

It was agreed that the Breed Council would revert to three meetings a year and that one of those meetings would be held at a venue in the North ( to be decided), the other two remaining at Markfield.

The next meeting will be on March 15th 2008 at Markfield.

The Chairman closed the meeting at 2.30pm.

Since the meeting it is with great sadness that I have to advise you that Mary Pringle has passed away. I am sure that you will all agree she was a true friend of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and will be missed by us all.

Veronica Brown,
Public Relations Officer.
